@Garwboy For this metaphor I assume, that we not only go straight for the shower but do so fully clothed. We then walk soaking wet back into the gym to sit down and start bragging about the sets we did today – runing not only our chances to achieve anything but the day of anyone, who is really into fitness, too. We then proceed to eat everything but our sandwich out of the bin and hope for the “less productive people“ to fix all the mess we made.

@Garwboy AI is to writing what those meal replacement powders (like Soylent, etc) are to food: yes, technically you can live off that, and it’s faster and “more convenient”, but trust me, you don’t want that shit to replace your food. It will mess your stomach, take away your will to live and make you question your decisions (and you’ll never crave real food more than after a while with it). Yeah… no, thanks.

@EvelynOctavia @Garwboy This is generally in reference to school essays where doing the work of transforming knowledge and research into a well formatted argument is the entire point. Taking that raw information and letting an LLM spit out an essay entirely circumvents the learning process. The teacher doesn't care about the essays, they aren't worth anything, they're going to be bad.

I was thinking more of a gym where the exercise machines would all have little electric motors on them to do the exercises very quickly and without any effort.

Usually the task isn't "Write an essay" but "Understand topic X and to show me that you do understand it, write down your thoughts on it"...
AI can perfectly write down *some* thoughts on it and provide a good outcome in 15 minutes (or even less).
But you still didn't solve the task as you still don't understand X.
The analogy with using a forklift to lift weights captures that nicely!
