JPEG XL is obsolete. It's all about JPEG AI now. Because.. of course it is. It's not clear how it is superior to regular JPEG and JPEG XL but it has the "AI" and those letters are typically worth billions when they are attached to something, and it doesn't seem to matter if it's a toothbrush or a image format.

@argv_minus_one @idiot @lproven I don't think 4chan has changed a single line of code in it's backend the last 10 years and I'm not even sure the person operating it knows how it works or what any of the existing code does. I suspect we'd see any kind of improvement in the span of a decade if that wasn't the case.

Uploading webp images here does work. If webp files are smaller or better or not is of course up to those who create them. Pic related becomes 68K as a 90% quality webp, 484K as a lossless webp, 184K as a jpeg saved with a 95% quality setting and 476K with a 100% quality setting.

A 90% quality webp is fine if you assume that nobody will ever do anything other than display the image in a web browser, but that's not always the case. I suspect that a lot of "news outlets" are serving .avif files compressed to death intentionally in order to discourage anyone from ever doing anything with their images. That's not a good thing.

@zackwhittaker Yes, websites let you sign up using whatever name you want as long as you're first person to sign up with that name and yes, you can then post stuff not written by the guy who's name you used.

This concept is what you're upset about.

You could have just reported the account as impersonating you. I have no idea why you decided to very publicly demonstrate that you don't understand how the internet works instead of doing that.

If yt wanted to stop the flood of slop then they would have done that already. Someone upstairs ran the numbers and decided that oh yeah all this slop increases shareholder value so we're just going to ignore it.

Nebula isn't even a functioning website, it's just a "Sign up now" page. If I'm not going to post something on a website then I'm not going to sign up.

YouTube works without signing up, and it's free. Nebula is therefore not "a lot cheaper than youtube". Zero is cheaper than any non-zero amount. As for the rest of your sales-pitch, there's only ads on youtube if you don't know how to install ublock+blocktube+sponsorblock or newpipe on a mobile device.

If there's any actual advantage to that sign up page your shilling then say so, don't just make stuff up.
