It's not so much that the plants would lack the machinery needed for locomotion, like molecular motors or polymerisation of cytoskeleton elements, it is that the way they're used for locomotion outside the animal kingdom generally works in liquids only, while when thinking plants we think land plants which mostly need to be able to function in dry environments.

While you have 46 chromosomes, certain ferns carry huge numbers - the record is 1,400!@johncarlosbaez You write "diverge from the animals we're used to", you mean from seed plants?
I'm not sure either to understand when that would result in an increase of chromosome numbers, or do you mean that chromosome number increase as in other species results from division errors, but that this polyploidy is kept? But then what does it mean to be bi/haploid ?

The #EU is putting some money where their mouth is.Had there been such institutional interest expressed in the #fediverse before?
Can someone explain what #ATProtocol would allow/implies? Should it read "Fediverse or ATProtocol" or "and" (I guess if it's "or" Fediverse should be replaced by #activityPub, and I'm not sure I see how "and" could exist)?
