@SuneAuken I think all of my pessimism comes from the slowness of the British to accept reality. That is, a reality where the EU is far more important than many Britons, even Remainers, thought. This should speed up greater integration within Europe, but we have a Government who consistently fail to have a uniting narrative in almost every field of government.

@SuneAuken indeed. The US isn't an ally. The treachery of Trump is now. The betrayal of Ukraine is now. We can't wait to some post-Trump time and pretend the fascism didn't happen and all go on as before. The only thing more troubling is the weakness and disunity of Europe after we 'outsourced our security'.
