My friend's child was born female, but as they approached puberty, identified as a male, and asked to be called by a traditionally male name.

Which is no different than someone saying "Don't call me Charles, my friends call me 'Chuck'."

How does someone asking you to use a different name affect you?

How does their choice of bathroom affect you?

How does their choice of clothing affect you?

How does their choice to take medication that helps them transition affect you?

The answer to all of those, for me at least, is "Not at all". None of those things have any impact or practical effect on my life. What is the affect on yours?

I find myself being very angry lately. I think I have good reason...

• There's a war AND a genocide that nobody wants to decisively stop.
• In many western countries, there's an increase of xenophobia, racism, homophobia, and other hate.
• Fascism is on the rise. But... we had a war about this, and fascism lost -- at an incalculable cost. How do people not remember that?
• Quality of life is dropping like a stone - environmental degradation/climate change, essential government institutions are being dismantled, wages aren't keeping up with cost of living.
• Billionaires are fucking everything up because their greed simply cannot be satiated.
• Human rights are being infringed/diluted - every single aspect of a human life is being monitored, tracked, monetized, and sold.

How are you folks dealing with all this?
