Good basement mix session tonight. Listened to the raw unmixed new blues tune first thing this morning with fresh ears. Major mud going on. Got surgical this evening with an 8-band EQ on each individual track. Cleaned up the 200-300 hz ugliness and tweaked each track’s frequency ranges. Rolled off all the real low end stuff. Getting there. Play with the master tomorrow, listen again and final adjustments. Registered it with SOCAN tonight too. Nice short song at 2:36. #music #audio #recording #songwriting #blues

@jwcph Yeah, wish I could figure out the midi thing to do my own beats. Ideally, a kit, but I can’t make too much noise in the house. Actually, I was contemplating getting a midi cable for some kind of controller and doing some research on how to do it. But I need quick and easy for getting the song ideas down and recorded. I honestly always wanted to do my own drum tracks. I got an old Korg WaveDrum. Maybe I should play around with that.

Another evening working on the new song. Got the Melody Maker SG running through the Strymon Iridium. Some decent tones. Gonna try the Danelectro 59 tomorrow night. That Dano middle position is fuller that the single bridge pickup on the SG. Still trying to get the rhythm guitar line sussed to fit the vocal cadence. Slowly figuring it out. Wrote a song. Lyrics done. Working on structure stuff now. Key, tempo, chords. Roughing it out with the little Takamine acoustic. I think it’ll end up being a 16-bar slow turnaround blues thing. E, A, B7, A7 or some variation. Trying to get the guitar rhythm basics down to fit the vocal cadence of the lyrics. Lots of options. Too many.
