  • criminality & corruption are key components of fascism
    susankayequinn@wandering.shopS susankayequinn@wandering.shop

The good news: most people (yes, even Republicans!) really don't like crime and corruption.

There IS a point at which it is just too fucking much to swallow.

That point will vary, and for some, there's no bottom.
    But not most.

We need people to spit out fascism & put these guys in jail.

This is key to patriarchy as well.

People in patriarchal churches, relationships, societies, will make endless excuses for the men at the top (or even the middle): "loyalty" is more important than stopping dudes from raping and pillaging the community.

Not only does the tyrant need to be free to crime and corrupt but he needs a lot of minions to do a lot of crime on his behalf, and the best sort of person for that job is one who is already a criminal.

Also: why ICE is fully of J6ers.

  • All the "move fast and break things" people have is speed and destruction—and the hope that if they move fast enough, steal everything, demoralize everyone, break democracy just in case...they can get away with it.

They're certainly giving it a good try!

    But...

  • This “loyalty oath” shit the fascists are trying with the universities reminds me of this post I made 7mo ago… and we’re still fucking here.

(Only of course it’s much worse now)

They will not stop until they are stopped.

  • I honestly, truly believe this rage at the intrusiveness of tech will lead more people to opting out of it, finding new ways (better ways) to live.

I honestly, truly believe this rage at the intrusiveness of tech will lead more people to opting out of it, finding new ways (better ways) to live. I know it's motivating the heck out of me in my own personal life, and I was 100% the tech optimist enamored of shiny new tech for most of my life. They lost *me* and if they're losing me, they have to be losing so many others.

  • If you think things are rough, let me tell you a little story re:my HOA:
    susankayequinn@wandering.shopS susankayequinn@wandering.shop

TL;DR if you think we can't self-organize & use basic democracy to take back our communities from sell-outs & corporate takeovers, and NOT ONLY THAT but increase sense of community & work on making things *better* with community events...my neighborhood would like you to know it 100% can be done.

This middle-class neighborhood just self-organized their way into taking back the HOA board, booting out the corp, holding elections, forming new committees for community events, lowering fees... just democracy-in-action&I love to see it.

Just got the email. Never been happier to pay HOA dues.

Of course the management corp tried to fight it... they came with their sleazy powerpoint about how YOUR NEIGHBORS ARE VIOLATING THE HOA SETBACKS. Like they vowed to get out tape measures. I am not kidding.

What they didn't expect: literally no one wanted that.

Now here's the key: I DID NOT STEP UP. Other than being an agitator and encouraging rebellion, I was like, fam, you gotta take the lead on this, I'm busy saving us from the fascists and climate crisis.

BUT BOY DID THEY STEP UP. Held meetings, took votes, put the corp on notice...

Me: Yes, this is completely fucked. You should stage a takeover of the board. Better yet, disband the HOA.

Her: Oh. Um. Yes. Yes, you're right.

    Me: Damn straight I am.

(I'm literally LOLing through all this too)

...my suburban neighborhood RIOTED. And by "riot" I mean the local plugged-in mom-realtor called *me* because I'm the local trouble maker with my rainbow lights, political signs, solar, and native garden.

Fam, I did not know this woman but she knew just who to call.

My neighborhood HOA was very chill... so chill I never heard from them. Until suddenly the board sold us out to a management corp who jacked up our fees & vowed to crank up "enforcement" (sound familiar? it gets better)
