Welcome!

Can you imagine, years ago how the internet was before? We know Facebook, Twitter, Tiktok, Youtube. We knew blogger, Tumblr, Skyrock… and long before, it was the forum era as phpBB..and mail-lists.

And now with ActivityPub, we are reshaping the web, and achieving much more with lots of freedom. So thank you all, and welcome 🤟😁

I am not one of the .world admins, so I can’t say for certain how their backend is set up. Ten minutes may just be too short, for example my own private instance is set up to flag posts from the same user that occur within 15mins, and above a threshold number block new events from posting (this prevents issues with Activitypub and local internet latency). If you are concerned about it, you may want to try reaching out to them directly and inquiring about this issue, since they’re the only ones who will be able to answer this question. If I had to bet, you aren’t being singled out and this is indicative of a technical issue that could be resolved. But I don’t know that for sure, and the LW admins may just this petty.

Oups, you are right. Sorry i didn’t expect it would post there. It was a mistake X) And this microblog post has a language problem it isqset to english instead french. X) I was doing autopromotion off my communities on microblog to invite french people on mastodon/iceshrimp to participate in those two english communities. I will remove this post once some people read my comment.

Not from the clipboard! In Firefox, copy-pasting converts all images to PNG, wasting lots of space. Photos grow by several megabytes. It shoud send the original file from local cache, but it doesn’t.

Might be worth looking at the behaviour of so called leftists on Lemmy. Many of them openly support and cheer for russia’s invasion of Ukraine and support summary killing of Ukrainians (“summary executions in Bucha [and beyond] is a BIA conspiracy!!!” is not a serious statement), openly state that Ukraine does not have the right to self-determination and generally support the extermination of Ukrainian culture, language and identity. I am from Ukraine, from Donbas (Lugansk) no less. What sort of reaction do you expect when you see alleged leftists cheers for the total occupation of Lugansk by the Russians with BS like “Lugansk is free of da Nasizzz !1!1!”. Or what about Jeromy Corbyn fanboys denying Corbyn’s open support for russian genocidal imperialism (keep in mind these type of things get reported in Ukrainian media)? The fucker literally worked for Russia Today (which is managed by russian intel) and cheered the annexation of Crimea in 2014. As far as I am concerned, I hope all tankies meet the same fate as “Donbas Cowboy”, Russell Bentley. Bentley’s wife, Lyudmila, then claimed that Russian soldiers from a tank battalion abducted him. According to the Investigative Committee, Vansyatsky, Agaltsev, and Iordanov tortured Bentley on April 8, and he died shortly afterward. Vansyatsky and Agaltsev are suspected of blowing up a car with Bentley’s body in it and ordering Bazhin to get rid of what was left of his remains. Is this an unreasonable reaction to disgusting tankies? What reaction do you expect?

All the data is stored in the nooki PDS. And there is one nooki PDS and can only be one PDS? Or can anyone make one? Users have PDSes (Personal Data Server). Nookie wouldn’t have a PDS, it could have its own database but that’s not anything to do with the protocol. The theory with ATProto is that user facing interfaces (App Views) write data directly to PDSes and then this data is aggregated by a giant index (Relays). This relay data is then consumed by those App Views that sort them into posts, replies, likes etc. and presents it to the user as a usable interface to interact with. That’s the high level gist, Bluesky is ridiculously over-engineered as it’s made by a bunch of cryptobros who wanted ‘social media but on the blockchain’ originally and this bleeds into the wider ATProto ecosystem. I can’t speak for nookie, it could just be a basic centralised site that uses Bluesky as a sign-in mechanism. (That’d make sense given the apparent author prompted it here before and didn’t say it had any ATProto integration and it used to have the ability to create accounts).

They did a TON of work on the UI lately. And the federation works a lot better last couple of years. Mostly due to community servers popping up. Glad you are getting it a bit better now than before. For me it loaded up almost immediately…but I also have 1000+ MBPS connection so…take that with a grain of salt.

I mean as long as we keep an eye on it we can direct them towards the right place if it’s a specific question. I see this as a general dynamics in the Threadiverse. We also have 10 different technology communities and even I don’t know in which to post. Some people just post 5 times and there isn’t an accepted way of doing it. We usually just go with it. Guess it’s similar with newbies. They might not know whether they’d like to talk to the people on an instance, or the largest community, or the developers…

This is only tangentially related, but that graphic dropped me into a rabbit hole where I found this dynamic word visualisation tool with a similar visual aesthetic that’s pretty neat. (Edit: seems experimental though and I’ve managed to break it a few times lol)

The app on ios doesn’t work for me. Since I have an old phone and webapps are prone to overheating, I haven’t gotten far yet. I have an account, but yet to really start using.

To the point where I personally, someone involved in the Fediverse, am not sure whether it communicates with the “Threadiverse”. Mastodon does, for example. If you count Mastodon, then Threads does indeed communicate with the Threadiverse. Here on Mbin, I can find federated accounts from there, like this totally random guy which do have actual posts. So looks like everything is federating over well.

I mean, yes, but there’s also an implicit social contract with fediverse software that you probably shouldn’t scrape without federating back…?

I’m not sure how it could be done without having central servers Let’s explore the following: companies have their instances where they post their vacancies there is a bunch of instances, bigger, smaller, some for one person only, where people post their resumes and use to browse the jobs we could even add some tagging system into the mix, so you can follow a set of “#city #branch #technology” for example In order for a job to appear on my instance, someone on the instance would have to follow the account of the company that posted the offer for personal instances that would mean I would have to discover a company before it posts a vacancy. Most of the jobs I see on LI are from companies I have never heard of for instances with multiple users, that would mean some would have the job post you are interested about and some not if we tried to have regional instances (already a centralization), someone would have to maintain the federation list some kind of discovery/bridge instance? Regional? And then there is a question of privacy. I would not like someone on the instance of my current employer to possibly be notified of me sending a message to another instance So decentralization of all that would be hard. And without decentralization, the instance would have to be pretty hefty and it will be just a matter of time until some big company tries to have a special deal with the body running the service. Or will simply drown out the feed compared to a company with just one job post I guess it might work if the central instances were owned by employment offices. But at the time, most of local governance doesn’t even post on fediverse

For Peertube, if you are interested, https://tube.inlinestyle.it/ (part of the https://inlinestyle.it/ services) has a “Curated Creators” section where it emerges creators that the team considers interesting and a “Trending” section where it surfaces Peertube videos that are hot now. Those sections are visible to unregistered users too, so you can take inspiration and then follow the content on your favorite platform.
