    as a dev I get it, people always say “just make it an option!” to every little thing but then they aren’t the ones who have to code, write tests, document, and do QA on the quintillions of permutations of options and keep maintaining them as new issues appear with certain combinations and even if everything goes perfectly you still have a super cluttered list of options and then no one uses any of them because it’s too much to read through them all

    I goofed and made the Dungeon Crawler Carl and ebook Deals communities on piefed.social instead of piefed.world. I didn’t realize which one I was signed in to. I don’t use my .social account for anything besides testing the newest releases so I remade it at !dcc@piefed.world and !ebook_deals@piefed.world where my main account is. Sorry for the confusion.

I really tried to make it so that federation is rather seamless. There’s a lot of work to be done with respect to discovery, so it’ll only get better over time

    Also two bots I quite like: @birb@rss-parrot.net @bsky.brid.gy@bsky.brid.gy And though creating trackers with the former and having your account bridged to Bluesky with the latter both only seem to work from Mastodon, profiles created by either can be followed from anywhere microblogging-capable on the fediverse. =D

    You should read their project page and blog. I mean I don’t own any crystal ball, I can’t look into the future and see if it’s going to succeed… It speaks ActivityPub. So it is the Fediverse. And it is a shop… Or better: It might become one. Because their progress meter shows something like 25% done. Currently it’s just some early computer code and they need to invest a lot more time before it’s ready to do anything. I doubt it’s gonna “replace” Amazon, though. I mean Free Software alternatives rarely replace multi-billion dollar companies… But if they keep at it, it might become an online shopping platform. And maybe one day, you can buy something there, or sell your Etsy stuff via “Shops”. Or maybe they lose interest, start a new hobby, finish school and don’t have time for this anymore and the project goes nowhere. I don’t think we can tell.

    how about local fabricators, cabinetmakers, jewelrymakers, upholsterers, pc bulders, injection molders, etc. that want to reach a broader customer base but can’t get a foothold on amazon because of anorknlo, fidula, bidor, wasysky, and other “companies.” but in the end, as long as home depot and… hot topic? are playing fair, sure why not? maybe lowes will want to get in on the competition. edit: or maybe not. maybe you want to set a market cap to prevent a huge eetailer from dominating supply with their volume. maybe a local hardware store will, too. is barnes and nobles what you can come up with when you try to think up examples of independent stores? seriously?
