@jarno @IngridHbn Ik heb wel vaker het gevoel dat Happy Cow op zijn retour is. Ik merk trouwens dat iets teveel vegans naar mijn smaak niet voldoende moeite meer doen om op verplaatsing ook naar de vegan opties te vragen (en vaker genoegen nemen met veggie). Een rondje kip en ei? Geen aanbod want geen vraag?

Ik vernam nog dat een vegan die kookboeken uitgaf ook niet meer vegan is , hij doodt nu herten.. wat een spreidstand #gazoakley

how disappointing with #GazOakley.

i've made an alternative to #HappyCow, which is #libre / #opensource and based on #OpenStreetMap data:

it shows only the #vegan places, not #corpsebased kitchens with a #veggie option

( if there are inaccuracies, they can be fixed with an #OSM editor. )

@pelle @VastBee @jarno thanks for all the info!… only vegan places. I already see none of those in Northern France. So that’s a problem. I have to eat, so I prefer eating where also corpses off animals are served. Either way it all adds up to supply and demand, if the kitchen is fully or partly plantbased.
But I understand your sentiments.
Where I live for example fully vegan restaurants are extremely rare. Unfortunately. ️‍🩹

the map shows all the places tagged with diet:vegan=only on #openstreetmap.

on #android i've been using #vespucci or #scee to edit places. you can use any #openstreetmap editor that allows editing tags.

Ok, so I edited a place yesterday, as you described. Just wondering how long before that change is picked up by the map?

the list of all the vegan places is quite small, like 2MB, so the we just send the entire list to everyone who looks at the map.

however, i think the #overpassapi query is heavy, so for now the server admin is manually updating it about once per month, to be polite.

if for some reason you need to demo a fully up-to-date version, feel free to just self-host it. it's light, because i programmed it on my old #android phone using #termux, so you can self-host from phone too.

the only dependency is curl, and any web server, like:
