@GossiTheDog Asserting ownership ("text I own") over the output of the generator based on your input is an amazing thing all on it's own. "I caused it to be generated, therefore it's mine" is a hell of a thing.
@Unlikelylass @GossiTheDog Are we talking copyright law? As I understand it, the status quo is that the output of a slop extruder is uncopyrightable.

It's about time.
"For works created on or after January 1, 1978, U.S. copyright protection lasts for the life of the author plus 70 years"
It should be a straightforward thing to build that in. Especially if their AI is smart enough to remember when everybody died. Not sure if that last sentence deserves an eye roll.

@pwloftus @GossiTheDog you are right, locally owned and managed LLMs are going to have potentially fewer guardrails of all kind.
We are already seeing political commentary that they are too dangerous, I guess it could get worse
-
@GossiTheDog imagine doing this. imagine spending your life like this. INSTEAD OF JUST FUCKING WRITING IT AND USING YOUR IMAGINATION!!!
There's the problem. These people don't have imagination.

That whole subreddit is full of posts like that btw, it's literally people trying to sell books they've "authored" with prompts.
It's not just one person, it gets 150k visitors a week, everybody convinced they're now Stephen King.
@GossiTheDog Ironically this is exactly why I'm incredibly skeptical of e-books from unfamiliar authors that seem "too cheap". If it's under a certain price point, I automatically assume it's AI slop and won't even consider buying.

there have been over the time so many bestseller sludge authors who used to sell to people who didn't care much about picking what they are going to read. I don't think much changed nowadays, maybe only that the job became much easier for sloppy authors.

@GossiTheDog they take time complaining about it on reddit and also waiting for an answer instead of just writing the book themselves. ai bros brains are just cotton balls, i believe

There is at least one comment that indicates some common sense(the last one, in case you don't have it). -
@GossiTheDog I grew up reading the parodies in MAD Magazine so I know that actually creative people don't have to ask a statistically-probable word generating machine for "help."

@GossiTheDog How pathetic.

@GossiTheDog Beyond parody.
We should be mocking these people ruthlessly (to their faces, when possible) for their inability to do literally any fucking thing for themselves.
Overgrown babies, but without any of the charm. How do they manage when LLMs aren't yet capable of changing a diaper?

@GossiTheDog We are living in a Stephen King story. Pure LLM horror.
