To eveyone on Mastodon:

@LukefromDC We also need to be laying the groundwork for the next generation of decentralized social networking that can't be dismantled this way. The fediverse is incredibly vulnerable to DNS seizure (the technical part of the attack on A/I) to break federation and relationships across instances, and that vulnerability is entirely gratuitous from bad design choices in the protocol and failure to give users autonomous identity.

@s1m0n4 @thisislieven @LukefromDC Maybe some kind of leftist "hawala" system could get money to the A/I folks and others under blockade.
@joeblowenarbol @s1m0n4 @thisislieven @LukefromDC yes! And guess what, the ruling powers are also at war with hawala systems

@ailurocrat @Recalcitrant @regendans @baedling @LukefromDC If I'm reading this right, terrorism is being defined as "competing against large commercial entities".

To eveyone on Mastodon:
The real lesson of the US attack on autistici/inventi is that WE ARE NEXT. Mastodon servers mostly do not run things like PRISM, are often based outside the US, and compete directly with the Tech Bros and their ad and tracker supported shit for an audience.
Also lots of anti-Trump activism here.
If we don't fight for autistici/inventi today, we will have to fight for Mastodon tomorrow. Domino effects are real with Fascists as we saw at the start of WWII.
I think the #Fediverse is still under the radar for most fascists - but then again, the Fediverse is under the radar of everyone but its users right now. They tend to focus on #Bluesky as a hate target first and foremost, because most prominent liberals gather there.
That being said, improving the resilience of the Fediverse in any way we can is still an excellent idea - if Bluesky goes the way of Twitter, we will be the next target.

I didn't know about hawala, I've just read the wiki page.
That must be pretty convenient. I wish there was such a system here too.

Ok, so I am not a tech expert and my best understanding of your reply is that somehow the Danish people are involved and I think we don't like them but I am not quite sure (I know a fair few - lovely people as far as I can tell).
I appreciate your reply but do you have a non-jargon translation?
@thisislieven @bms @LukefromDC
DANE is an acronym (see the Wikipedia link). -
@thisislieven @bms @LukefromDC
DANE is an acronym (see the Wikipedia link).It was a (bad?) joke. My point is more that while I genuinely appreciate the effort in the reply it is also highly technical. For someone not fully versed in these things (me, and millions of others) it might as well be written in Kalaallisut.
Especially when it is about a threat towards Mastodon/fedi it probably helps if everyone can understand what's going on and what we can do.

@Socltime @thisislieven @s1m0n4 @LukefromDC Hate to point out a rude awakening here, but... Good luck getting UK retail banks to support SEPA payments via IBAN correctly, at least, when I tried in the 2000s with Halifax as a personal retail customer, I got NO RESPONSE WHATSOEVER when I asked about it in writing, despite an earlier grudging compensatory response when I was the target of ATM card cloning. As far as they were concerned at the time, the regulations may as well not have been written, and I was well aware of them then and now. The situation may be somewhat better now, but it entirely depends on which specific UK bank one is using.
I can't do Revolut because they're avid LLM users and are too tied to Google in their tech stack, and their privacy policy is quite abusive. They make exercising GDPR Article 17 difficult as they are obstructive in that sense. I CANNOT condone or recommend Revolut in any way.
@bms @Socltime @thisislieven @s1m0n4 @LukefromDC
I am aware that Barclays Bank (UK) supports SEPA/IBAN.All SEPA transactions are in € so the UK bank will need to do currency exchange.

@LukefromDC btw I just read an article in Italian that describes Mastodon as an "anonymous social network used to discuss actions and ideas for subverting the status quo."

@dalias @LukefromDC on the one hand I really respect that Mastodon et al. Have managed to build a functioning system without getting lost in the sauce of cryptography, but yes we are literally at war with the ruling class so we need to be able to survive their attacks

@joeblowenarbol @thisislieven @LukefromDC@s1m0n4 @joeblowenarbol @thisislieven @LukefromDC it's worldwide. My dad knew someone who got stranded on a pretty remote island and needed money sent their way. No banks or Western Union could send money to that location. But the local Somali travel agency in Copenhagen? Sure, no problem. It's worldwide

@Recalcitrant @gwadej @ailurocrat @regendans @baedling Which is really fucked after the US was forced to help the YPG and YPJ fight in order to stop the cancerous growth of DAESH. Some "thanks" for their service in war!
Well, there's an old Kurdish saying that the Kurds have no friends but the mountains. At least the mountains are good friends to have..

@juergen_hubert First up for Bluesky is ID based age verification. They already have to block direct access from one US state (Louisiana?) to avoid this law.

That's like Axel Springer whining if the RAF (the guerillas not the air force) had run a competing newspaper instead of blowing up his office.

A humorous note: Axel Springer actually worked as an editor for an officially approved newspaper in Nazi Germany.https://truthlytics.com/axel-springer-nazi-zionist-propagandist/
Therefore he had to sweat twice about being "bombed by RAF..."

@clickhere @baedling @LukefromDC One of the easiest and best first step is probably to sign up for Tuta or Proton or something and start using it.
Start taking your privacy very seriously. Learn as much as you can about how much you are sharing and how to stop.
And I think they suggested trying to make as many people as aware of this as you can. If not, that should help also.
Insist on the type of communication systems they provided and don't settle.
@crazyeddie @clickhere @LukefromDC i use tuta, proton, and A/I emails, my phone runs iodeOS and has no service, i have mullvad vpn on everything, and i never use my name for anything other than like, banking stuff.

@dalias @LukefromDC There's this thing called GNUnet, but it seems to be a very slow development...
@cbw @dalias @LukefromDC Yup. For those interested, a great watch about #GNUnet is this short introductory talk, given at FOSDEM 2020: https://www.invidious.tiekoetter.com/watch?v=qZYI-3Q1INI
> DNS [...] not only does not provide you any kind of security, but it's also arguably managed and governed by by corrupt organizations (which we have seen with the .ORG case just recently) [...] we cannot actually use it to build decentralized applications on top [...]
>
> And that is where the vision of the GNUnet project actually starts. So, GNUnet wants to basically build a full stack that provides you with the individual layers of the ISO/OSI stack, so that decentralised applications can be built in a meaningful way.(03:00-03:44)

@cbw @dalias @LukefromDC Also, here's a 5-minute explanation on how a core component of GNUnet, the GNS (GNU name system) works: https://www.invidious.tiekoetter.com/watch?v=bB9SC4kD27Y
(Speaker is Christian Grothoff, who's also one of the lead developers of @Taler)
Let's spread the word!
