The first genuinely honest ad for generative AI I've ever seen, from Microsoft / CoPilot

@ketan I really hope the ad agency meant to do this and Microsoft just didn't get it

A mediocre white guy sees his non-white colleague getting praised for good work, he asks AI to *literally copy it*, and then he gets all the praise instead:
I am amazed. If this were a parody ad, it would be brilliant. It’s real? Does their ad agency hate them? lol!

@paulcox @ketan I can absolutely imagine some mid-level creative, exhausted from having to shoot down a thousand slop suggestions from "helpful" client execs, deciding to do that. But I can also imagine a whole team of slopaddled dudebros being completely unable to see the heinous racism in their script.

@ketan His prompt was seriously "make my charts beautiful"? What did the slopbot do? Add more fingers to his mediocre bar chart?
-
@ketan Morally this is somewhere in the ballpark of the car company promising to set "nature lovers free" when they buy the big-ass SUV and have a blast running it roughshod all over the woodland and prairie. At some point the driver stops, gets out and pets a small plant, then gets back in the SUV and floors it. This was from ~20ya.

@ketan except he asks it to make his beautiful? I see nowhere that he asks AI to copy the other chart.

@ketan the most 2026 usa ad ever, hand them an award

@monocularvision @ketan but the narrative and framing make it clear he's doing this after having a neg reaction to peers calling a coworker's beautiful
what is that if not asking ai to replicate what got his peer praised?

@finestructure @ketan @drahardja AI ads are unironically this cringe. My (least) favourite one was by Apple in which a wife forgets her husband's birthday, gets passively upset at her children for remembering and getting gifts, then uses AI to "gift" her husband something like a collage or montage of photos from her phone, something that phones create automatically these days.
