Happy dandelion day to all who celebrate (mostly ruminants)

@sundogplanets love this! Many people consider them weeds, but I thinkt they're pretty, particularly when you take a close look at all the intricate petals. Also not just tasty for goats .. Have you every tried making dandelion jelly? It's surprisingly tasty!
@ennenine @sundogplanets dandelions are weeds but many plants are but very useful. Not in the middle of a carefully manicured lawn perhaps. Good for nature though.
Fun fact, in French they're called Pissenlit which loosely translates to wet the bed (lot. piss on the bed) because of the flower shape.

@EF We call these wonderful wild herbs 'pissenlit' in France because as medicine they are good for the bladder and kidneys. 🤫

Your table is ready, friends. (If you like to eat grass and dandelions, that is.)
@sundogplanets Dandelion greens are great for eating in salad. They sell them in the health food stores for those in urban areas.

Small dandelions leaves make an excellent salad.

@EricFielding @sundogplanets $$$expensive. You can make the flowers into wine, if you really wanted, too.

@NatureMC @ennenine @sundogplanets indeed. From the c15 as they were used as a diaretic.
Manger les pissenlits par la racine also amuses me as the French version of pushing up the daisies.

@sundogplanets the dandelions are trying to repair the soil. Aerating and pulling up nutrients with their long taproot. Your soil is probably calcium deficient. It’s not a native, but not sure why it gets a bad rap otherwise. Lawn propaganda #killyourlawn

@woodenmachines Wasn't trying to imply dandelions are bad in any way at all.

@sundogplanets sorry, didn’t mean to sound like it was directed at you. Just wanted to share that they pop up for a reason.

@woodenmachines Thank you. For a minute there I thought perhaps someone had just mansplained dandelions to me... (I live on an organic farm on the Canadian prairies. I LOVE dandelions!)

@EricFielding
The greens are diuretic. That's why they're called 'pissenlit' in French and 'Bettsächer' in some areas of Germany (both meaning piss-in-bed).They're quite tasty, by the way. My grandparents used to harvest them on their meadows (I'm just not sure when they did so… I guess before the bloom)

@sundogplanets upon further reflection… does sound a bit mansplainish. Sorry, be well
