yeah. we'd find bugs and talk to tony or paul or dino, then they'd have us put in a ticket w tac and email them them ticket number so they could grab it.
when cisco "outlawed" talking directly to engineers, life really started to suck.

if you weren't running a cisco ios load with a cisco engineer's initials in the version string, you weren't a tier 1 isp.

Well young people today believe they invented hanging out (wait, I got a great new idea, we could just meet without any phones, eat snacks and talk!) and vegetable soup (uh, I just figured out that you could fry food BUT USE WATER INSTEAD OF OIL).- don't expect them to understand the internet...

So they decided to go with a monstrosity composed of a bunch of different things none of which are wrong necessarily but which don’t tell a cohesive story. Combine that with the introduction of NAT and… well here we are 30 years later.

In hindsight, it is obvious that there were IPng proposals and concepts NSA really didn't want to happen.
For instance flow-routing would have made their "collect everything" a lot more expensive.
Same, probably to a lesser degree with multi-homing.

@paul_ipv6 @wendynather the one that really needs to apologize is the one who let the ads in. When they let for profit use into the internet, that was the worst possible decision and responsible for the current mess/the beginning of enshittification.
