I have absolutely zero desire for a management position, and I'd happily spend the rest of my career continuing to do frontline "grunt work" because that's the fun part of work to me. This framing makes it seem like they're irradiating themselves on the premise they'll cure cancer in a year. These people are upping their risk of cancers by net 0.1% over a lifetime and this coverage is playing into them thinking it's badass.
