@imaginaryuncle The nice thing is you're filtering on the content and not the person. So if I talk too much about my love of pizza, you can filter those posts but still see all of my content about my love of sandwiches

@imaginaryuncle there's a few of us hanging around, but I don't have a complete overview. I sometimes do miss the teacher community from the old Twitter days. I feel like there's not as much sharing classroom activities here, but that might just be me looking in the wrong places
@brianb and @Saltssaltgirl are two of the more active teachers in my feed, but I'm sure there are many more. Check out school related hashtags and see if you find something you like! -

@imaginaryuncle hi and welcome! for books and such a lot of the most used hashtag is #bookstodon which you can also follow like a user so you see updates others are posting which makes it easier to meet new people.

@imaginaryuncle welcome. mastodon is great. You just need to make an effort at first. Everything you want in your timeline has to be found and followed by yourself. It's a real change form algorithms. Follow @FediTips maybe, if you want more tips how this functions . There's also a website

Hi! I’m new here. I’ve tried Mastodon a couple times but maybe third time’s the charm! I have become increasingly disillusioned by mainstream social media and I’m searching for ways to connect with other people outside of an algorithm.
I teach high school English and I read a lot. Currently at book 92 of a read around the world project. I was a teen in the 90s and still trying to keep my grunge phase alive. I love art and film too.
Hope to meet some likeminded people!

find yourself some large accounts that post often (and share your interests) and connect with people in the comments
follow hashtags and search for the content you are interested in rather than expecting it to come to you
things can be slow to start, but the bigger you get the more momentum you'll have and cool content you will see by default
there are definitely a lot of millennial book readers here! grunge, art and film!
