Hi! I’m new here. I’ve tried Mastodon a couple times but maybe third time’s the charm! I have become increasingly disillusioned by mainstream social media and I’m searching for ways to connect with other people outside of an algorithm.
I teach high school English and I read a lot. Currently at book 92 of a read around the world project. I was a teen in the 90s and still trying to keep my grunge phase alive. I love art and film too.
Hope to meet some likeminded people!

find yourself some large accounts that post often (and share your interests) and connect with people in the comments
follow hashtags and search for the content you are interested in rather than expecting it to come to you
things can be slow to start, but the bigger you get the more momentum you'll have and cool content you will see by default
there are definitely a lot of millennial book readers here! grunge, art and film!

@imaginaryuncle Use hashtags and just start following people you find interesting. I guess mastodon has a starterpack feature called collections but you can also try fedidevs.com/starter-packs/ to find people to follow like in bluesky. Mastodon is as enjoyable as the effort you put into it. Its like the old internet, you have to self curate it..
