things can be slow to start, but the bigger you get the more momentum you'll have and cool content you will see by default

Hi! I’m new here. I’ve tried Mastodon a couple times but maybe third time’s the charm! I have become increasingly disillusioned by mainstream social media and I’m searching for ways to connect with other people outside of an algorithm.
I teach high school English and I read a lot. Currently at book 92 of a read around the world project. I was a teen in the 90s and still trying to keep my grunge phase alive. I love art and film too.

I guess mastodon has a starterpack feature called collections but you can also try fedidevs.com/starter-packs/ to find people to follow like in bluesky. Mastodon is as enjoyable as the effort you put into it. Its like the old internet, you have to self curate it..

@imaginaryuncle i’m with you, my friend. I have been banned from/chased off of basically every mainstream platform by people who are either too scared of Trump, or trying to impress him.
This place is kind of my last stand as far as my Internet presence goes.
May we both find what we are looking for here.
