@jon Oh gosh.. and Sweden doesn't strike me as the country who neglects railway infrastructure, there's so much more to possibly happen but I didn't expect the first hiccup that early into the adventure! This is interesting and thrilling

@hopla @jon Our maintenance deficit was calculated to something like 150 years to catch up on, excluding new maintenance that will be needed during those 150 years 😅😅

@Jonas_Bostrom This is the video I used to locate the power section boards and figure out that it’s using the same power section to Murjek 😅

@jon Stats on the link below. I don’t think this page differentiates train not even scheduled from train cancelled (there have been track works this year that I assume explains many days not running), but despite some frequent delays it looks like at least outright cancellations are uncommon.

Since the cause was an overhead wire torn down by another train, it’s not specifically a systemic issue here.

I don’t dare making a judgement call though.

@Jonas_Bostrom @jon @nafmo @sebwilken @stefanlindbohm Wow, that was a weird solution. The line to Haparanda was on the *left* when leaving Boden and had to curve around and pass over Malmbanan on a bridge. Or did I misunderstand?

@tml @Jonas_Bostrom I also found that a bit odd. Presumably because the platforms are by the leftmost tracks at Boden C station?

@stefanlindbohm @tml Det stämmer, och det var en väldigt udda lösning. Min gissning är att det var för att tågen från Haparanda skulle kunna ta sig till perrongerna utan att störa trafiken på Malmbanan.

Did you expect being stopped in your tracks so soon in the trip? Or was Sweden always a risky country to cross?

The whole story is this: From the beginning (1900) the Haparanda line had its own track all the way to Boden C, parallell to Malmbanan ("the Ore line".) 1921 the ore train bypass at Boden C was built and Malmbanan and the Haparanda line switched tracks north of Boden with the Haparanda line crossing Malmbanan by bridge. The purpose was to minimise the conflicts between the iron ore trains and other traffic. ->

@Jonas_Bostrom @tml @jon @nafmo @sebwilken @stefanlindbohm -> Around the year 2000 the western part of the Haparanda line was rebuilt for heavier trains and this is when the parallell track and the bridge were removed since the line had (and has) so little traffic that the parallell tracks and the bridge weren't needed.

So this is the likely new timetable

                                        I think

                                        I hope!

@jon You can change directly from ECE 5 to TGV 9580 in Karlsruhe, skipping the regional train between Offenburg - Strasbourg.

I guess the reservation fee is slightly higher for this though? But it does make the trip simpler.

@stefanlindbohm I am not worried about that. There are loads of options there. And if I can I want to take the crap cross border railbus 🙂
