    AI & its associated technologies are having clear & consequential effects, yet they no doubt will allow Home Office officials to escape censure for lying & misrepresentation;

    'it was the machine what done it, M'lud'.

    Court's will need to be more sceptical of HO claims from now on!

        @ChrisMayLA6 I’m for relatively minimal consequences for this; the home office employee who produced this should be charged with fraud, and the home office lawyer who signed off on it immediately disbarred.

        Which would be a LOT less than they deserved.

          @ChrisMayLA6 In many societies men control women because they are afraid women will outperform them.

                @ChrisMayLA6 How many other immigration cases have used false documents but have not been noticed?
                What other areas of law are using hallucinated evidence?
                What other areas of law will this be expanded to as fast as they can get away with it?
                It will certainly ease the pressure on the police when they just need to arrest the usual suspects and press the "Manufacture Evidence" button.

                  @ChrisMayLA6 The purpose of the system is what it does, in this case absolution of wrongdoing and responsibility because the computer did it and nobody can possibly be held liable.

                            @ndevenish @ChrisMayLA6 disbarment is extreme for this compared to similar non-AI related unintentional but clearly negligent submissions to the court - a 1 year suspension and a few thousand pounds of fine would be par for the course

                                  And so we find ourselves where we knew we'd end up... the Home Office using AI-generated slop (a document that doesn't;t exist) to refuse an asylum claim.

                                  AI & its associated technologies are having clear & consequential effects, yet they no doubt will allow Home Office officials to escape censure for lying & misrepresentation;

                                  'it was the machine what done it, M'lud'.

                                  Court's will need to be more sceptical of HO claims from now on!

                                    Maybe I am tired or hallucinating…but is the gist of this story that the Home Office can completely ignore the testimony of a woman fleeing a country where she was made a child bride and raped and feared being killed by her convicted criminal husband if she went back there because they thought they had a a document (that only exists in AI make believe land) which claims everything is hunky dory in said country. Only the real document says it’s not…

                                      ‘It states that in 2018 exemptions were made granting 40,000 child marriages, one-fifth of the total marriages that year. It adds that Morocco’s laws do not explicitly criminalise marital rape and that women who report this may be criminalised for engaging in sex outside marriage if they are disbelieved by the authorities.’

                                      Doesn’t sound like even the Tories who were in charge at the time rated Morocco.

                                        It isn't analogous. It is congruent.
                                        That should be expensive, as well as the criminal or contempt consequences to whoever sent the evidence.
                                        AIUI there will have been a statement of truth, and some natural person signed it.
