@internetarchive I saw a machine that uses a light vacuum to hold the page to the scanner and just kinda scans as it turns the page. There really was no reason for Amazon to destroy books.

Yeah, I've seen ones that turn the pages with a little vaccuum arm and also ones that have a "wedge" shaped scanner that kind of plunges into the half open book and scans as it moves the pages.
Not saying we should put archivists like Eliza out of a job, but making their jobs easier and less tedious is an actual good case for automation.

@internetarchive Oh wow. That's a pretty neat scanner. And I find it impossible to believe it's more efficient to rip books apart when a thing like this exists... They just didn't care enough to look.
