Companies pay Amazon Prime Video to show ads.
We pay Amazon Prime not to show us ads.
Amazon continues to show us ads nevertheless.
We pay Amazon extra money to stop.

@cmconseils DLNA it by sharing a video from YouTube on one device to the DLNA device locally and bypass the adverts.
-
@cmconseils
That is kind of how it works. Running a platform like that does however cost money therefore I don't mind too much paying a little.@alterelefant
Now, the cool thing about the internet is that if you want to publish things that works (or worked) perfectly fine without these so called platforms.That are more or less a for of digital leeches sucking money out of the economy.
So no I don't see the value here beside that they've captured nowadays most content, so one is forced to deal with them.
@cmconseils -
@cmconseils kinda like an outbidding contest of money for attention.
@fogti
It's actually an attention/eyeball economy. It's literally called that in certain contexts. -

Deutsche Telekom charges consumers for broadband access and then also charges content providers for bandwidth to their customers. If you're the platform, nobody can afford not to do business there. -
@renardboy @Legit_Spaghetti @cmconseils add sponsorblock as well. It uses community notes to auto skip the YouTuber ad reads and promos.
Its amazing how well it works. Right after any big youtuber releases a video, it skips over them. Even smaller youtubers will ad skip within a few minutes of release, and if not, the plugin let's you easy annotate the start - stop to help others.

@Legit_Spaghetti @cmconseils ublock origin gang rise up
Sorry, not directly related at all, but in my head I then hear the thing from #TerryPratchett 's discworld (Night Watch, or Guards Guards!"?) where they sing "All the little angels all rise up, rise up, rise up, all rise up..."

@cmconseils at least it's a step up from newspapers, where you have to pay just for the privilege of seeing the ads! (and occasionally some unsponsored content)
