Mastodon includes an optional feature which lets you automatically delete your posts after a certain amount of time. There's a guide to using this feature including lots of questions answered at:
️ https://fedi.tips/deleting-posts-automatically-in-mastodon-after-a-certain-time-periodIt's off by default, it only deletes stuff if you switch it on. You can also set it to keep certain posts, more info in the guide.
I've tried to answer questions about this feature in the guide, but let me know if I've missed anything.

@FediTips I have mine set up to auto-delete posts after one year unless they are favorited 50+ times or if I bookmark them.

@FediTips
Good one. I will surely want to make use of it. -
As far as I know this isn't possible. The auto-deletion is based on choosing exceptions to the deletion rather than choosing specific posts to be deleted.
A workaround could be to reply to the posts you want to delete with reminderbot, then manually deleting them when you get the reminder. More info https://fedi.tips/is-there-a-reminder-bot-for-mastodon-and-the-fediverse
I wouldn't rely on deletion to remove public stuff though, if it's a public post it may get archived somewhere. Setting it to followers-only is safer.
