Welcome to the #LongestTrainEU #CrossBorderRail record breaking thread!

@jon In my corner of the Norrtåg network they use different rolling stock, but successive cancellations is not something I’ve seen.
They are also amazing at sorting replacement buses that work, FWIW.
@stefanlindbohm @jon @tml @Jonas_Bostrom Unfortunately they do it all the time on the Haparanda line. Something deeply wrong there.
-
Most important: can any people even better versed in the mess of Swedish rail that me tell me what the chances are that Norrtåg 7185 Haparanda - Boden - Luleå is going to ALSO be replaced by a bus?
It currently looks like it will be a train...
@jon @sebwilken @tml @Jonas_Bostrom @stefanlindbohm i feel for you, swedish rail is a big cluster f*ck… be prepare to change your plans
and good luck!! -
@jon @sebwilken @Jonas_Bostrom @stefanlindbohm Out of interest, were there many other passengers to Haparanda on the train? Are they also continuing to Boden and beyond, Kiruna, Luleå, or Umeå?
@tml @sebwilken @Jonas_Bostrom @stefanlindbohm There were a dozen or so on the cross border section

Right then, this post outlines my options
1) Change my rules, take the rail replacement bus, and do major re-planning, and lower risk connections
2) Stick to my rules, and rely on tight connections later on in the journey
Input welcome! I lean towards 2)

@jon option 2 but if train is replaced by a bus without you knowing beforhand I'll say that's an acceptable exception.
Oh and you coule add a malus point system if any remplacement bus was taken at some point making taking bus bad option for racing but not invalidite the
whole trip for record. -

@jon Option 2! It‘s a record attempt after all, so give us some thrill

@sebwilken @jon Exactly!

@sebwilken Might be the different rolling stock then. And the fact that they have a single trainset running back and forth. Lots more sensitive.

So I just called Norrtåg
There is a power line down somewhere. If it is fixed in time, 7185 will be a train. If it is NOT fixed in time it will be a bus...

So how bad is this power line failure?

@jon Can be a press of a button or a full replacement of equipment

️@stefanlindbohm Is there any website that explains this in any way? If this were DB at least I would half know how serious it was!

@jon Do the Eurovision thing and the ask the public to vote on a paying number.

@jon Trafikverket estimates that it will take all day to fix. Could of course be just a pessimistic estimate, but it doesn't sound promising for 7185.

@jon The closest that is public is this below link.
It mentions an electrical fault between Boden - Murjek which is mainly on Malmbanan, but it includes the short section where Haparandabanan branches off. So maybe it’s the one?
Estimated resolved tonight, so that’s not promising if so…

@gufo Hmm, but Murjek is the *other line* - towards Kiruna. Or is all of Boden disrupted?

@jon OTOH this might be an unrelated fault: Murjek is west of Boden, so I guess it depends on whether Boden station has power or not. Tricky.

@jon If we have someone working at an operator, they have access to internal systems which is similar to the DB ones in Germany, with more detailed info not available to the public. I don’t have this access :((

@stefanlindbohm Has anything else left Boden I wonder?

@jon @sebwilken @tml @Jonas_Bostrom @stefanlindbohm Those things take everything from a few hours to half a day to fix, down south where there are a lot of trains.
Up north off the main lines, who knows. Depends how long they have to travel to get to the troubled spot.
The rail replacement taxi will be in the Interrail system, so should be fine for the record attempt?
Anyway, the worst timing possible...
