3. If you're on a computer all your settings are visible on the left of the screen sorted into sections. If you're on mobile, click ☰ in top right to see all the settings.The settings on the website automatically carry over to the apps.

@FediTips I sort of feel that doing it on the website instead probably applies to *anything* someone's struggling to do in an app! Though I've never used any of them, so I'm probably not qualified to have an opinion really. I'm just periodically horrified by some feature or other that someone says isn't in their app.
Oddly, they typically then look for another app rather than trying the web interface. To me, that seems like wanting to do it the hard way.

@FediTips Maybe I'll try that one day, when I'm not struggling for space on my phone. From past experience I suspect I'll revert to the website very quickly, though. (I did experimentally install something else that way once, though I forget what.)

It doesn't take up space as such, it's basically a way to use the website but allows it to notify you about new posts, use the whole screen, stay logged in etc.

@FediTips Thanks for clarifying—I wasn't sure if it stored parts of the website locally.
But I'm so desperate for space on this phone that I use incognito mode for most websites, to stop Chrome storing data between visits (about 30MB for Mastodon when I was using normal tabs). Otherwise I'm forever manually clearing site data and the cache. It sounds as though the "app" would have the same effect as reverting to using an ordinary tab.

Fair enough, it sounds really frustrating!
And yeah a web app would store data separately from the main browser, which is how it stays logged in even if you reset the browser.
