The Minions of Avian Intelligence

@breizh @davidrevoy @Stem
"If you ask 25 of your students, it’s not a random sample" - that's right. If you only care about the students in your class then that's the entire population, not a sample. I see you wanted to prove you don't understand Statistics. Good on you@SmartmanApps@dotnet.social @davidrevoy@framapiaf.org @Stem@framapiaf.org But then a poll shared by your followers (or the DDG users) is like a poll shared by your students…
-
@Eldeberen @davidrevoy @Stem @breizh
"I can find a bunch yes" - so why haven't you cited them? That's how backing up claims works@SmartmanApps@dotnet.social @Eldeberen@social.middleearth.fr @davidrevoy@framapiaf.org @Stem@framapiaf.org Oh, two identical polls with differents results.
Oops.

@SmartmanApps @breizh @Stem So, according to your logic, Smartman, if we would re-run the US presidential vote here (constrain: only with voter who have a Mastodon/Fediverse account since more than one year to exclude bot and newcomers) we would obtain the same result as the one reality gave us? Right?
Well, statistic or not, I wouldn't bet on that even a single Euro.
-
@davidrevoy Sadly, people hating AI are just a loud minority, we have statistical evidences to prove it.
@Stem @davidrevoy you know it’s really weird to just make shit up about statistical evidence
here’s a recent pew research study showing that the majority of the US population doesn’t like AI: https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2026/08/18/young-adults-in-the-us-are-increasingly-wary-of-ai-concerned-it-will-take-jobs/
here’s a pivot to AI article from @davidgerard that links a Gallup poll and a heatmap survey with similar results concerning opinions on AI and data centers: https://pivot-to-ai.com/2026/08/25/everybody-hates-the-ai-more-and-more/
whenever we run polls it turns out the majority of people hate this shit regardless of what population is being polled
it’s uhh fucked to come on mastodon and claim to have statistical evidence and then just not link it
-
@light Quick evidences are sort of easy to find 'on the go' while browsing sometime on viral topics; you just need to check the profiles (profile name with a random word+four or five letter hash, generated avatar or no avatars, recently joined, have only history of comments like that and no 'normal' social media interaction).
But knowing exactly how many bots profiles percents on a social media, no. Knowing who own them, no. Knowing why, no. It's very opaque...@davidrevoy @light More direct evidence is we know they pay social media influencers to shill for AI

@davidgerard I blocked this fucker on sight by the way cause I don’t in fact have to listen to someone just make shit up but while we’re here let’s take bets on the response
- uhh nice small n study from pew research and gallup, call me back when someone serious does the work
- these are just the US, they don’t represent the world (which is hilarious cause outside of the US, AI’s even more hated, citation not needed)
- you’re lying, that study says people are “more concerned than excited” not that they hate AI (please call me when the survey does have a “I fucking hate this shit” option)
- well in my tech-heavy field it’s very popular (because your coworkers will get fired if they say they hate this shit and your bosses are savoring grifters)
- well actually this survey says *links some shit anthropic paid for* -

@davidgerard of course! AI doom is so fucking handy as a way to talk over a public that knows a grift when it sees one

@davidrevoy When in doubt, deploy more booster sockpuppets. It's not like sentiment analysis can tell spam from actual data anymore.
I wonder how things are going back at the Amphora...these things *are* just terminals after all. Or how they're whispering into the ears of kings and courtiers.

Okay, hey, that's me you're misrepresenting again. You've gone from arguing with yourself about something I didn't write in a thread to arguing with yourself about things I didn't write across different threads. Which is a choice.
I said that it did not call out different reasons for people disliking AI, so conflated people who disliked it for rational reasons and people who disliked it for doomer reasons, the latter of which are actively pushed by OpenAI and Anthropic's marketing because they drive investment.
My point was that OpenAI and Anthropic's appeals to investors are likely to be causing problems for them. The more articles in the mainstream news that repeat their 'oh noes, our AI is so powerful it might accidentally destroy the world' press releases that they push to make it look like their systems do something impressive, the more normal people will have negative feelings about their products.
The Pew survey asks if you're more excited than concerned or vice versa, it doesn't ask why you're concerned. It does ask about concern over AI resulting in fewer jobs, but it doesn't differentiate between people who are worried about AI overinvestment crashing the economy (resulting in fewer jobs) and people who believe the hype that it can actually do a load of jobs.

@zzt @Stem @davidrevoy @davidgerard there you go, with your facts, on a platform where the doofus then can't just go "grok, is this true?"

@zzt @Stem @davidrevoy @davidgerard there you go, with your facts, on a platform where the doofus then can't just go "grok, is this true?"
@patrick_h_lauke @zzt @Stem @davidgerard Also, maybe a nuance here; if you ask poeple if they are concerned by Google or Meta or GAFAMs; they'll probably say in majority they are "concerned" while having almost all a Facebook account and a Gmail.
I mean, it's not exclusive; and I think being concerned about AI is far from being not using or against AI. -

@KronoGarrett Hehe, I never had the time or the panel count to establish properly the relation to the Amphora of Great Intelligence; but this episode https://www.peppercarrot.com/en/miniFantasyTheater/035__Avian-Intelligence.html had a clue about it. Yes, the Parrot are just terminals. Maybe I'll can set this up in next comics, but I'm also considering pausing a bit on the Avian Intelligence series, it's great, but the theme is also exhausting for me

@davidrevoy @light More direct evidence is we know they pay social media influencers to shill for AI
@davidgerard @light True. Even with my humble metrics, I receive offers via email like this, more than once weekly (refusing all/not replying, of course).
It probably works for many content creators without the luck I have to have a monthly community support that make me live of it.

@shironekoI consider this guy a minor Fediverse celebrity. In case it helps shape the way you handle him, you might want to check out one of these threads:
* The poll he ran that he's referring to: https://dotnet.social/@SmartmanApps/117006976986454267
* Another thread which exemplifies his mathematical knowledge and attitude to views which differ from his own: https://dotnet.social/@SmartmanApps/115207044364101854
* Any other of his pinned posts with replies from other people.I would never want to instruct anyone in how or whether to discuss with someone, but I think there is a certain pattern across these different subjects that can help you decide.
Full disclosure: I issue these messages somewhat frequently.

@shironeko True. Thank you Shironeko.

@davidrevoy Yes, that’s it.
I’d bet. It’s just a fatigiung subject to deal with (and I still need to draw one of my bigger darlings stomping a hyperscale data center into a crater, or my computer werewolf tangling with a sparkly gradient blob monster representative of slop.)
