Alright folks, it looks like the #1Password execs aren't budging.

Alright folks, it looks like the #1Password execs aren't budging. Their co-founder is framing critics of DHH as calling him "evil," saying this is "unfair" and creating a chilling environment. This is a nonsense response to critique of a man who has called for ethnic cleansing. https://www.theverge.com/tech/988536/1password-dhh-linux-controversy
It's time to #Drop1Password. Cancel your subscription and share a screenshot. Tell them why you're cancelling. You will not lose access to your service until your subscription expires, giving the 1Password team the opportunity to reverse their sponsorship and/or you time to migrate.
@ehashman
If you pay a subscription fee for your password manager, do you really have a password manager?Or are you really paying someone else to hold your passwords, and please don't misuse them?

@ehashman There is unfortunately no cross-platform password manager with the encryption guarantees 1Password offers.

@jamwil it's true, and it sucks, especially if they don't reverse their position. But as I wrote in my cancellation email to support, I'm willing to put up with a little inconvenience in support of basic human dignity.

@becomingwisest At least as far as the non-password stuff goes (secure notes, documents, credit cards, license keys, etc.), if you're in the Apple ecosystem I saw folks recommending Uplock back in February when they announced they were raising prices by 33%.
I'm also given to understand that 1Password doesn't have a means for exporting/transferring passkeys, so you'll need to keep it around long enough to set any of those up from scratch. Otherwise, the password export process worked fine, and on the Mac I think you can even do it without having to export to CSV. I'm not at my Mac right now to be able to recall exactly how that process works, though, and it's been a few months since I did it myself.
@alahmnat @becomingwisest Thanks for sharing this! Uplock looks nice. I recently moved from 1Password to Proton Pass — ruling out Apple Passwords because I'm trying to diversify (anticipating one day needing to leave the Apple ecosystem entirely).
But yesterday I learned of equally problematic things done by one of the Proton founders sooooo… ughhhhh
I think my options are either Apple Passwords + Uplock (which look nice for now, but increase my dependency on iCloud, which I'll have to undo later) or self-hosting something like @aliasvault or @passbolt, my current top two picks.
Good luck, everyone!

@ehashman Thank God I never used 1P in the first place. :'p

@ehashman I spent my afternoon starting in on containerizing https://codeberg.org/ChiPass/ChiPass as part of the process to terminate an 18 year relationship with @1password

AI, Electron, violations of macOS UI conventions, and now hanging out with Nazis.Interesting that the rank and file don’t seem to be happy about this; I wonder whether any will walk.
Anyway, time to look elsewhere.

@ehashman if anyone needs a new password manager.... Just use keepass with WebDAV. Why put your hand on a new stove by going to 'another online service'?

@ehashman sucks you can't export passkeys
@sycophantic you should be able to if you are on 1PW v8 and you’re going to a manager that supports FIDO CXP (I’m looking at BitWarden right now)

I started using Keepass after I saw Bruce Schneier recommend it.

@ehashman Unfortunately we use it at work, though I already do not use it at home.
I will bring this up though if I can find the time and channels -

@ehashman I actually stopped giving them money a while ago. I'm still using the last version that could be purchased (v7?), and never moved to a subscription.
Of course, that's getting a little annoying now. I guess the obvious solution is to move to bitwarden? Or use whatever's built in to my browser or MacOS?

@csk If you're all in on the Apple ecosystem I hear the password manager is quite nice
