Your phone breaks. Your washing machine gives up. Somehow, buying new seems cheaper than repairing.

The EU is making the Right to Repair the new standard in Europe.

βœ…Repairs must be offered even after your warranty ends
πŸ”§Parts must be available after the model is no longer sold
πŸ“…Choose repair under warranty and get an extra year of legal coverage
πŸ“An EU platform will help you find local repair shops and fair prices

Less waste, more repairs. Good for your wallet, even better for the planet.

@EUCommission props for acknowledging that billionaires are counter-productive to what the EU propagates.

@EUCommission parts should be sold at a price that makes repairing financially attractive. Bosch is bundling cheap parts with the most expensive part of their washing machines, making a repair nearly just as costly as replacing the whole machine. That's not viable for repair shops or anyone really.

@raccoon @EUCommission but we need chat control and AI for profiling every person in Europe, to build a database for all the interested partys in europe. I don't see what problem this could cause in a time of rising fashism? /s

And what does hating money have to do with repairability?

@EUCommission that's amazing. Hope that will also be applied to cars and that there are timelines and consequences in there for not meeting the requirements.

Waiting now more than four months for my #citroen to receive a replacement part with no estimated delivery date yet. So there is real room for improvement I think.

                  Our democracies fail.
Our leaders give up on human rights.
Somehow, authority seem fancier than liberty.

Could EU work on that as well ?

@EUCommission That's a good step. However, devices can also get obsolete if they no longer receive updates, even if the hardware part works perfectly. This has a name: planned obsolescence. Something needs to be done about this too.

                                @EUCommission
Practically that would mean that parts that weren't available to repair my telephone last year should be available now?

I had a broken screen and the FaceID module was thrown out with the old one, in went the new - without that module.

Or does this only apply to products being introduced in the market, and from now on?
