- If you're using a mobile app, there may also be a "share" button that looks like a box with an arrow. Click this to bring up options for sharing on your phone's apps.

On that third case, I notice many Fediverse apps on android do not appear in the android Share list of apps. What are they missing?

I'm not sure, there is a similar randomness to what iPhone lets you share too.
But in almost all cases the sharing through the phone's own sharing system just amounts to copy-pasting the direct link to the Mastodon post into a post on another app.
So, you can bypass the phone's own share option by copying the link directly within Mastodon by pressing ⋯, and then manually posting it in another app on your phone.
