"Quiet Public (aka Unlisted)" - Everyone can see it, but it doesn't show up in searches, hashtag follows or trends
"Followers Only" - Only your followers can see it
"Mentions (aka Private Mentions or DM)" - Only accounts you mention in the post can see it

Which one doesn't subject followers to replies? I don't want to clutter up peoples home feeds with idle chit chat intended to stay in a thread.

On all visibilities your followers only see your replies in their home feed if they are following you AND the person you are replying to.

(This also includes posts where you are replying to yourself.)
