If you want to, Mastodon lets you block DMs from people you don't follow:
1. Log in on your Mastodon server's website
2. Click "
Notifications" (on mobile it's just a
icon at the bottom of the screen)
3. Click "show settings" double arrow icon in top right corner
4. Set "Unsolicited private mentions" to "Ignore"Bear in mind that no one will know you've done this, so some people mention they've done this on their profile to avoid any confusion (but this is optional).

@FediTips If I may suggest, without intent of criticism, if you could please anotate the directions you provide that refer to graphics with their equivalent text labels for the sake of those with visual issues, and who use a screen reader, for which for example, "the double arrow icon on the top right corner" is rather unclear in meaning. Thank you for all you do.

Thanks so much for raising this, my apologies for not including the label for the double arrow settings icon. I've edited the original post, hopefully it is clear now?
Also, I hope the rest of it is okay? The bell emoji should be reading as "bell"?
