Thank you @FediTips
Found out how easy it is to *preview* and *schedule* posts today.
Mastodon has a schedule api so you don't need to be online at the time, just a client that supports it:
https://fedi.tips/scheduling-posts-on-mastodon/
Tusky and Tuba can both do this.
To preview a post you can send a direct message to no one. Then if happy redraft it and make public:
https://fedi.tips/creating-draft-posts-on-mastodon/
Preview is useful to see exactly how media will look when posted.

@IanTwenty @FediTips i wonder how trivial it would be to actually add a proper preview? browser-only or requires server rendering?
private mention > review > delete w/ redraft > edit > change to public > post really doesn't give off user-friendly vibes, i agree...

Some apps have a proper draft feature, it's easy to do on the client side because by definition a draft doesn't need to be on the server as no one else should see it.

@FediTips @eladriagon with media sometimes thumbnails look different server vs client though? Tusky does a good job showing whole image in miniature but servers seem to crop to the centre. I may just need to let it go tho as I cannot test in every client...

I understand the problem you're raising, but it's maybe difficult/impossible to solve?
The appearance of media and thumbnails is going to vary depending on what device and interface/app people are using to view your post on their timeline. Even on the same device with the same software it can vary if they've adjusted the settings or theme, or if they're viewing it on the timeline vs in a thread. 🥴
