Mastodon's web interface has a special optional "advanced mode", which is designed for people on computers who want to view several timelines at once. Here's a complete guide to using it including how to switch it on and how to add columns:

You can use it to have dedicated columns for timelines, accounts, hashtags, lists, bookmarks, favourites, DMs etc.

(If you used to use Twitter, it looks quite similar to the Tweetdeck interface.)

@FediTips It needs a little love. There's a lot of wasted space in the UI.

What does it look like to Twitter users who never saw Tweetdeck, though?

This doesn't necessarily apply to just a multiple timelines. It looks perfect in a two-column "timeline" view with a dynamic feed for notifications, threads, profiles, and other things.

Oh, I think it's a bit better than that.

[I hadn't realised that it was a reference to what I already use...]

@FediTips Could you please add tips on how to resize the columns, & on making those changes permanent? I know it's possible but need to rediscover the second part!

@FediTips An accident spooked me once. Normally I use the basic two-column layout: timeline + menu links on the side. One day, I suddenly had a *third* column on the other side containing search & compose. This was not the advanced layout, but a spontaneous rearrangement to fit the window. The zoom had changed. I'd probably bumped Ctrl+MouseWheel. I keep my browser window a particular size and never maximize, but doing that adds screen real estate to switch to 3 columns as well.

Is this what you mean? (see screenshot) This happens if you are on a computer using the web interface but with the browser window small enough to trigger the mobile layout, but then enlarge the browser back to full size.
