    @gytisrepecka @david_chisnall ...then you kill all normal discussion about a widely used technology (and that will not go away) , also many uses are not "plain" LLMs but with additional scaffolding etc

      @jackemled @pettter @david_chisnall Not that stable on a log graph! (Surprisingly stable for most of 2025, I'm not sure why, and note that the grid lines are a factor of 100 apart.)

        @ErikJonker @gytisrepecka

        It's a pretty good rule of thumb that any technology that calls itself AI has hidden externalities that make it a net negative for society.

        Anything that's a net benefit doesn't use such a tainted term in its marketing.

                @snowfox @pettter @david_chisnall Logarithmic scaling exaggerates small deviations to make them easier to see. The instability you see here is an illusion, it's just showing you that it is changing slightly.

                Despite that, the enormous drop at the beginning of 2025 is still funny.

                  @snowfox @pettter @david_chisnall But if you really think about it, because of how cryptocurrencies depend almost entirely on investor speculation, any perceived stability is the real illusion.

                      @david_chisnall I think the common theme there is privacy.

                      And we can disagree with those choices, and critique them.

                      I’m not sure what a post like this is trying to say. Are you arguing that he’s secretly always been a bad person, there’s no difference between him and a tech oligarch, and we know this because of the technologies he has found interesting? I mean he worked on quieter leaf blowers too, how does this fit into your thesis

                        @ErikJonker Widely used does not automatically mean it is useful. Also "AI" is completely wrong term here since there is no scientifically accepted test to determine machine intelligence

                        LLMs is just a subset of supervised Machine Learning. It has nothing to do with intelligence, yet beautifully marketed and therefore rather popular

                          @gytisrepecka @david_chisnall the term maybe wrong but there are, in my view , useful applications and many people agree, transcribing audio is a good example, translating, image editing etc. Ofcourse it has it's problems and limitations for sure. I am fully aware of those, as a daily user.
