C'mon, man... why the fuck is StartPage taking minutes to "verify my request" every time I do a search!?

[energisch_@troet.cafe]

@jwcph maybe it's checking if you are a data scraper, and it does it thoroughly, so that takes time?

[merospit@infosec.exchange]

@jwcph Probably mining crypto in the background while you wait.

[jwcph@helvede.net]

@energisch_ Still, though, up to & over one minute...?

[energisch_@troet.cafe]

@jwcph that's long, hm, maybe browser trouble?

[jwcph@helvede.net]

@energisch_ If so, it's Librewolf across OS'es - I had the problem both on Windows at work & MacOS at home...

[modris@mastodon.social]

@jwcph I’m having the same problem using Startpage with Librewolf, but not if I use it with Vivaldi.

@jwcph These checks and cloudflare boxes popping up is the new plague. Even though each individual outburst is only (in my case) a second or so, adding it up over the day, week and month, shows that a lot of time is being lost due to this.

I'll proably move back to duckduckgo. I do not think they have this b.s.

[jwcph@helvede.net]

@h4890 No, but they have AI...

[h4890@merovingian.club]

@jwcph I am not anti-AI. Some AI is good, some is bad. For me it depends on the use case and implementation.

[jwcph@helvede.net]

@h4890 For me, it does not.
