The first genuinely honest ad for generative AI I've ever seen, from Microsoft / CoPilot
-
@ketan @drahardja This is satire, right? This is not a real ad or is it?
@finestructure @ketan @drahardja AI ads are unironically this cringe. My (least) favourite one was by Apple in which a wife forgets her husband's birthday, gets passively upset at her children for remembering and getting gifts, then uses AI to "gift" her husband something like a collage or montage of photos from her phone, something that phones create automatically these days.

A mediocre white guy sees his non-white colleague getting praised for good work, he asks AI to *literally copy it*, and then he gets all the praise instead:
Why is it shot like a horror movie?

@ketan literally any other combination would've gotten the same response:
- roles reversed: showing whites as victims of "stealing work"
- monoracial (white): product promotes white supremacy
- monoracial (non-white): stereotyping X race as "plagiarisers"Maybe we tone down on the idpol when we really need some class solidarity, eh?

they even named him "kyle," is it satire or are they "honestly" this clueless

-
@ketan I really hope the ad agency meant to do this and Microsoft just didn't get it
-
@monocularvision @ketan but the narrative and framing make it clear he's doing this after having a neg reaction to peers calling a coworker's beautiful
what is that if not asking ai to replicate what got his peer praised?
@hi_cial @monocularvision
He actually does "copy" the work, bottom roght of the screen you can see what he types.

@ketan This genuinely comes off as satire to me. Who thought this was an ad that would make people LIKE their product?

@loathsome_dongeater @ketan @drahardja Wow, that sounds terrible. That’s like a digital petrol station bouquet but with even less effort and therefore more of an insult.

Beside the embarrassing and cringeworthy aspects.It also shows exactly how not to use an "ai assistant".
That's like throwing dice on that rather mediocre Copilot thingy.

@ketan i wonder how many eyes that ad passed through before it was approved for release, that not one of them went "hang on... what are we actually saying here?"

@ketan
Wow, they’ve strung together some of the worst human traits (racism, envy, greed, selfishness, hypocrisy, superficiality...) and labeled them as desirable, only to then use them to promote a product?

So this is it — the brave new world envisioned by the tech fascists, the one that’s supposed to solve all our problems on Earth?
Can I hope this is satire?🥴 🫣

You've just opened up an eloquent description of AI and its users as
*wanker clankers* and *clanker wankers*

@ketan Man, this is straight up racist. Non-white people can be mediocre too.
But seriously, it implies a certain strata of people because of their ethnicity, and not their station in the power structure, use underhanded means to stay in un-deserved power. In context to a lot of readers of this site, it will sound like 'All lives matter' but be cognisant that this is an international website visited by people of a rich cultural background of discrimination against outgroups.

@ketan what a horrible work environment this must be. Team spirit? Together? No, ellbows and behind the scenes theft of data, and in this clip racism and again and again it is men who are in the lead.
Women just cheer on. This is not my world and never was. Thankful for that.
all the way down, and that’s why wankers love
it *so much!*
