@afewbugs Seriously, though, it absolutely is ridiculous, but it's also not surprising. Cults can only be sustained if their leaders continuously demand their followers accept absurd counterfactuals. Each one binds then more tightly to the cult and makes it harder for them to leave it.

It's part of their bonding process. Espousing offensive beliefs (like not wiping) makes them more distasteful to Outsiders, so they get shunned and bond more tightly into the pack by necessity.
