@masek Yup. That explains two full boxes of adapters and power cords that I cannot bring myself to throw out or bring to Staples for recycling or whatever.

Is there an official scientific name for this condition?

You find cables for hardware you haven’t owned in decades, and somehow your brain still insists, “Better keep these. They might come in handy.”

Oh yes. I have enough cables to make a museum at home. ADSL cables, for example.

@masek we kept a bunch of spare BNC cables for an embarassing number of years before donating them because "someone might have a use for them".

I still have VGA cables. Civilizations have risen and fallen since they were last useful, but somehow they remain under my desk, quietly waiting for history to repeat itself.

My neighbour still uses a VGA cable.

His PC has VGA and DisplayPort. His monitor has VGA and HDMI.

He is not an IT nerd, doesn't know or care about DisplayPort to HDMI converter cables.

              Hence VGA.

@masek@infosec.exchange I have boxed up a large box of these and the box has been untouched for a year, yet I still can't bring myself to get rid of them. And somehow, now, I could probably fill another box!

@catsalad @briankrebs @masek I've been hard on myself for getting rid of these. Especially as I've had some circumstances where I couldn't find the right cable in the big box of cables, so ended up buying one.

If I can get it on Amazon with next day or same day delivery and I'm not actively using it, then it goes in the bin.

@catsalad @briankrebs @masek Guy I know asked me if I had an adapter he could use with his device, so I rummaged in my bag of cords and adapters and came up with one that would work and also had his name on it. (He'd added it to my collection meant to go for recycling about a year earlier.)

                                      @masek I think I’ve oversold myself.

My Finnish is anchored in 1950s northern country, farm girl dialect.

(Having learned from my 1950s, northern Finland farm girl mother, when I was a kid).

But I will consult the cousins for an authentic translation.

Is there an official scientific name for this condition?

You find cables for hardware you haven’t owned in decades, and somehow your brain still insists, “Better keep these. They might come in handy.”

@masek I still have a box with 10base2 cable, connectors, junctions and terminators. 🙄🤦‍♂️🤣
