"An 8K video is 10 times heavier and more polluting than an HD video.

@CiaraNi It's very much the same with audio files. I have a 40 yr old system which produces fully satisfactory results, and my response to family members who tell me I 'need' a newer system to get best results, I tell them I have no intention of spending large sums to get results that only my dog can hear.
@hoare_spitall @CiaraNi I have a set of Panasonic headphones that lists frequency response from 16Hz-24KHz. My old ears frequency response drops off rapidly above 12KHz...so newer does me no good!

@CiaraNi TBH it's not just big tech. Everyone involved in technology gets bored with old things and wants to replace them with new ones. I see a lot of unnecessary churn in open source software and wonder what it is really for.
@kbm0 Good point

@CiaraNi
Even 4K needs you to be about 1.5m from a 72" screen to see much difference from upscaled HD.HD (1080p) with higher frame rate (say 96 fps) is more use than QHD or 4K, unless it's a screen the size of a wall.
Even 1080p is a bit pointless on a smartphone.
My phone was Android 8 and the local AnPost Banking killed the Web interface. The App needed Android 10 minimum. They claimed the App was more secure.
An Android App isn't more secure. See fines against Google & Malware on phone.@raymaccarthy The constant app updates are truly dementing and almost always pointless in practice.

@dancingtreefrog @hoare_spitall Great example of the pointlessness of the overreaching upgrades-for-the-sake-of-upgrading.
