If you want to reply to a thread but just want to reply to the original poster who started it, delete the other account addresses mentioned in your reply.

If you're on a computer and using Mastodon through a web browser, you can do this ultra-quickly by just pressing backspace before you write the reply. By default the addresses of people other than the original poster are highlighted, so pressing backspace removes them.

Sometimes a thread is a conversation between several people so replying to several makes sense, but sometimes you just want to reply to the OP.
