If it weren't for Democrats, most of America would starve.

@DemocracyMattersALot this is absurdly phrased. Red State agriculture literally feeds the nation. Make your point without misinformation?
@ryanprior @DemocracyMattersALot
"California is the leading agricultural state in the U. S., significantly contributing to the nation’s food supply with over 400 different commodities. It produces approximately 43% of the nation’s fruits and nuts and more than 20% of its milk. The state is strategically located within a Mediterranean climate zone, enhancing its agricultural diversity. In 2022, California’s agricultural exports reached $23. 6 billion, up by 4. 4% from the previous year, with key exports like almonds and dairy driving this growth. Despite hosting only 4% of the nation’s farms, California generates over 10% of U. S. agricultural production value” -- https://garden-landscape.com/what-proportion-of-california-s-agricultural.html

@LevZadov @DemocracyMattersALot dietary calories come primarily from grain, and grain is grown primarily in red states. When you look at outliers, like grain production in California and Illinois, the calories are grown in the reddest parts of the state. You can fudge the numbers around but it doesn't make "red states would starve without the blue" less of a bizarre take. Red states, and red counties in blue/purple states, are agricultural powerhouses. Say "would go bankrupt" or w/e instead

@DemocracyMattersALot ...now let's talk about secession...

Using a more complex methodology but still relevant outcome: https://www.moneygeek.com/resources/states-most-reliant-on-federal-government/
13 of the top 20 on their dependency score lean red, with different ratios depending on if calculated by GDP or total value. New Mexico, a blue leaning state, tops the list of welfare states.
Even in sources that show a map of donor vs welfare states they're careful to use other colors to show the difference. The red vs blue coloring is pure propaganda.
@zimzat @DemocracyMattersALot @hadeny
DC feels like it needs a bunch of asterisks in this list
-
@DemocracyMattersALot you should rename your account from democracy matter to i am democrats defense league
@hiphopheaven @DemocracyMattersALot I sense a literacy issue

United State of America, not America.
America is a continent, not a State.@events_images @DemocracyMattersALot you’re a continent

If it weren't for Democrats, most of America would starve.
@DemocracyMattersALot
Very interesting that only three and a half of the blue states (Utah, Nebraska and North Dakota, plus Virginia which flip-flops) are Republican run, and only one of the red States (New Mexico) is Democrat run. -
If it weren't for Democrats, most of America would starve.
@DemocracyMattersALot those red states must be socialist or communists relying on the capitalist blue states for handouts...
-
If it weren't for Democrats, most of America would starve.
@DemocracyMattersALot Hear me out.

United State of America, not America.
America is a continent, not a State.@events_images America is TWO continents, numbnuts.
You know what's worse than being a pedant? Being a pedant and sucking at it.

@hiphopheaven @DemocracyMattersALot I sense a literacy issue
@humanhorseshoes @DemocracyMattersALot That hiphop or whatever dude posts like a botnik.
-
@DemocracyMattersALot that doesn’t surprise me in the slightest, I am curious about the numbers and statistics though. Do you have sources we can look at for more information? Is there a credit to someone who made this graphic?
@hadeny @DemocracyMattersALot NDakota being a donor state seems a wee bit sus to me

If it weren't for Democrats, most of America would starve.
@DemocracyMattersALot yet these MAGA idiots would starve, and still praise Trump while blaming the starvation on Biden and trans people.
-
United State of America, not America.
America is a continent, not a State.@events_images @DemocracyMattersALot
i've seen this sort of comment before
in the English speaking world it is usually "the Americas" for the hemisphere and "America" meaning "the USA" in many places for a long time
but in other languages indeed the term is "America" for the hemisphere
that's the essence of the disagreement:
translation error, culture clash
myself, i don't really care
but i'll watch these sort of arguments for entertainment
there's more important battles to fight

@ryanprior @DemocracyMattersALot
red states have the republican political culture of "i got mine, fuck you"
so if someone needs govt aid to eat, red state or blue state, that aid is mostly from blue states
if the aid stopped, do you think the usual republican asswipe would gladly make up the difference? or watch the poor in their states starve?
republicans have made it quite clear they'd just let the poor starve, even with great farm bounty close by. cruelty is their political platform
-
@DemocracyMattersALot fair enough, my critical lens intensifies when stuff like that is missing, especially for graphics and images that could be AI generated
it's an old observation
you can find many sources bearing the truth that blue states support red states (mostly)

@zimzat @DemocracyMattersALot @hadeny
why are you calling it propaganda when you reiterate that it is true?
@benroyce @zimzat @DemocracyMattersALot they’re saying the coloring of red and blue states inherently gets people thinking of political party affiliation, when the data is supposed to represent contribution/receiving federal funding
-
@hadeny @DemocracyMattersALot NDakota being a donor state seems a wee bit sus to me
@pixelpusher220 @hadeny @DemocracyMattersALot
that's because of the oil
the Bakken Formation
so ND would indeed be like the other red states if that oil revenue wasn't there (and as such, is unlike the more well balanced economic activity in most of the blue states)

@benroyce @DemocracyMattersALot right, I get that. I think it would be a better delivered message if it was constructed in a more thoughtful way (or not likely #aislop )
