Should the Fediverse have a "friends of friends" audience option?

@evan this is too complicated.

@zkat that's interesting! Do you mean, complicated to implement, or complicated to understand?
-
@Tattooed_Mummy great, feel free to skip the poll, then.

@evan complicated for users to effectively use.
-
@evan yes, and there should be customizable audiences like facebook's "close friends"
-
Instead, they should fix the "Only Friends" option on replies. It's just weird and broken.

@NaraMoore yeah, it's stupid.

@NaraMoore long discussion here

@NaraMoore long discussion here
I am familiar with this discussion and am in the "Alice's followers only" group. This was the OP's intent to start and means a consistent audience rather than a conversation that fades in and out.
I am not a fan of multiple options as this increases click counts for everything.

@NaraMoore I agree! The good news is that ActivityPub supports this out of the box; it's what we expected people to implement. So, it's possible to have a Mastodon fork or another platform implement this.
-
@evan no but you should be able to select the audience of your posts, like the old circles.
-
@evan
No, but it should have circles. -
@evan I'm all for additional scopes, but before "friends of friends" I would rather have a "local" scope like some server software already supports it (e.g. the hometown fork of Mastodon).

@dentaku I somewhat agree, but I think that should be implemented as a group.
-
@evan I thought it was fof feed. *that* would be cool

@evan
No, but it should have circles.@the_moep@mastodon.de It’s been around for a very long time, just not on Mastodon
