      No, sorry, what you meant to say was:

      @ptribble I have a similar thought whenever a messaging app tells me:

      "Your message is too long"

      When what it really should have said is:

      "My buffer is too short"

        @ptribble

        why should people expect that every website will cater to every browser ?

        many of these unsupported browsers have a market share of only a few percent or less, so why should the website care or even why is it their responsibility to deal with everyone who decides to be different ?

        you wanna be different, that is your choice, but you can't whine that people don't accomadate you

          There are standards. Just build standard conforming web sites and you don't need to bother at all, which type of browser people use.

                  Because they are WEB sites. You know, the thing consisting of open standards.

                  Look, if you want to make a Microsoft Publisher file, go ahead, but don't pretend that it's a web site. Then there's no pesky standards to follow, only the people with the right software can open it, AND you get to use a nice drag'n'drop gui tool to make it.

                  Also, 90% of the time, the only thing these minority browsers have done "wrong" is having a slighly different useragent string than the Chrome browser they are really just a skin on top of. You know, the useragent string that has been completely unreliable since the introduction of Internet Explorer.

                      @failedLyndonLaRouchite @ptribble half the time those sites don’t even support Safari, which hardly counts as a weird browser, so don’t give me that nonsense.

                        I will stipulate that some sites don't support Safari, which appears to be roughly 15% or so browsers

                        so that is a fail

                                  @ptribble ... the browser would probably simply have worked just fine, if there had not been a braindead browser detection script preventing that. 🤯

                                          OddOpinions5 Tgere are 3 browser engines. Building for the one that is destroying the open web doesn’t make you a good developer. It just makes you a lazy authoritarian bootlicker.

                                          Like, the one you’re calling a niche option here is almost certainly Firefox. If you’re butching about people using Firefox, you’re paart of the problem and you should go seal yourself away until you understand that.
