yes, car manufacturers and policymakers have a responsibilty for motorist supremacy, but you can't just buy an SUV and wash your hands: »why aren't the politicians doing anything about the climate?«

driving is a choice. making that choice means being okay with flattening a certain amount of deer, rabbits, frogs, snakes, foxes, mice and badgers, and making the city streets unsafe for kids as well as grown ups, and polluting air and water with exhaust and microplastics.

similarly, the US gun lobby has a responsibilty for gun violence, but that doesn't absolve the person who pulls the trigger.

@pelle @chu I think the absurdity of your response kind of makes my point for me lol

You can be as upset as you want at individual motorists, and they will continue to need to get to work. Individual consumptive choices are seldom a very coherent or organized form of political expression.

@theory @chu @catflyhigh oh of course. I’m just in Europe at the moment and saw the German news first so the opener felt a little close to current events

Totally agree on the framing though! “Our country just had over a thousand heat deaths” should be an embarrassment resulting in huge government spending to address the problem. It’s negligent, IMO

People in Europe, please don't let your politicians gaslight you like American politicians do to them.

After every school shooting is never the time to talk about gun control. Making it political is somehow "disrespectful" to the innocent children shot by mad men who got easy access to deadly weapons.

Now is the time to make every heat death political. Make every death count. Scream to the rafters. Hold public funerals for victims of heat deaths. Name the perpetrators. Don't let their deaths become meaningless.

Tell their stories. Use the opportunity to tell children about the lies of fossil fuels. Build monuments. Hold vigils. Sue fossil fuel companies for wrongful death.

Whatever tools you have, use them loudly and proudly. Don't let this slide.

@chu 1) Germany is a country, it's not the whole of Europe. 2) The only country that seems to tolerate mass shootings is the US. Can't speak for Germany, but anytime this happens in Canada, gun regulations tighten to make it more difficult for the next one. Our problem is the @#%$@#%@#%$@ lax gun laws in the US and those guns making it across the border. 😞

"Germany has very strict gun laws, among the strictest in Europe."

My post had nothing to do with this shooting. It was posted before it happened. Or at least before I knew of it.

I was using the political tactic as an example

I hope every death becomes politicized right now. In Chinese, there's a term, 白死. It means to die for nothing. May nobody 白死 and have every death used for good.

Just saw that France alone is reporting over 1000 heat deaths.

For the sake of everyone, please politicize these. Hold public services, memorials, and at every turn say they would still be alive if not for the lies of fossil fuel companies.

If anyone gets interviewed, the first thing out of your mouth should be the words "climate change".

                            "Climate change killed ......"
"Exxon Mobil lied and we died"
