@benroyce Especially on Facebook and X. A recent study found 90% of Reform UK-supporting accounts on Facebook are fake. The oligarchs and plutocrats want autocratic governments that'll do their bidding, in their own narrow interests...at the expense of everyone else. This is what happens when we let psychopaths gain too much power and influence.
Corporate social media is an echo chamber for their malign influence campaigns. The fedi isn't much better, but is at least a significant improvement.
Im going to say that compared to the larger platforms, fedi is a huge improvement. Many admins and teams do their best, at least better than the larger ones.
The pace on the bigger platforms is much more frantic and it just seems so fucking fake..

We're entering #election season in the #USA. The #midterms
That means something for you:
You will see an increase in #trolls
Messages along the lines of
"Nothing ever changes, both sides the same, waah" #cynicism
And
"The candidate is unideal. Allow me to amplify and manufacture high holy outrage on the point" #perfectionism
All of which is designed to suppress the #left #vote and help #MAGA
You have been warned. Brace yourself
@benroyce I've been noticing an uptick of "So you really think you can vote yourself out of this?" posts on Mastodon. It wasn't from a bot account but the cynicism is really starting to ramp up from the "burn it all to the ground" quarter.

@benroyce@mastodon.social
There's a meme for that, Ben;
As it supports what you said.
In your own words as follows;
"It's better to have a shit admin."
"Than an admin that sends", etc.
So please feel free to use meme;
As you spread your message.
As I'm sure this will help you.
To gain support for Democrats.
Which is your goal, so please;
Enjoy it in good health, and;
For clarity & for your benefit;
I did not create this meme;
As I am not at all artistic;
That said, sleep well, and;
Have a great Thursday.
@axolotlwell yes
the world is shit
so we sustain and iterate to better. it's slow. that's always been the case
what else is there to do? what standard do you have? perfection?
define for me an alternative approach, and i will change my words
if you cannot, then you need to change your words
until then, you're one of those people who get off on feeling smugly superior but you don't actually care about improving our world. just vibing meaninglessly online. you're not a real leftist
-
"My goal isnt to discourage people from voting"
so don't speak words as if it doesn't matter. obviously voting matters. in the pure tactical way, at the very least, that i explained to you above
the truth is you depend upon people who vote. without them your efforts are outlawed. and people who vote depend upon you. without you we don't get progress
so the way we get effective change is to do *both*
it's not an either/ or
so don't lie and shit on the vote. *you* need the vote
@benroyce i agree its not either / or. But as we touched one before, all your energy is for the election, and when the dems win, a its back to business as usual.
But not only will the wars, the support for genocide in Palestine and deportations continue, but the fascists will be back, and worse, over and over again until they finally take power definitively.
Voting can be harm reduction, go for it! But it's a temporary band-aid. And unfortunately, the vast majority of voters think filling a ballot is the end of their responsibility to the world. Personally i think your fiery rhetoric would be put to better use combating that apathy instead of rallying agaisnt those trying to build direct democracy.

@axolotl @benroyce Suppose if an electoral blowout against the GOP is followed by the Speaker refusing to seat Dems in Congress or any similar scenario.
This is considered a high probability scenario, and it MIGHT finally force enough people to get in the streets and duke it out with these bastards to give us a fighting chance.
Before anyone thinks I am talking trash, I received a dangerous injury in that Nov 14 2020 battle in DC against 20K Trumpers/1K Proud Boys/3%ers/Oath Keepers and was back out for more on Dec 12 that year and to help defend Black Lives Matter Plaza on J6 itself.
I have gone up against literal division-size opposition and made it back.
yes, the clarity principle
if few vote, and fascism wins, and some voices go "let's fight": no one cares
people who don't vote are expressing their apathy. there's no struggle there. it's acceptance
while if they vote, and the vote is ignored, this is a fountain of anger. this is the ignition point of the serious struggle
we have to vote. people who argue against voting or disregard voting are only helping fascism

they aren't real leftists
a leftist has an ideological position and works coherently towards goals. not just voting, but anyone remotely serious understands voting is a good tactic
an empty loser vibes online smugly to make themselves feel good. they have no coherent plans. they have no genuine ideology. they have ego masturbation and 14 year old edgelord contrarianism. immature, unserious people, who plant their useless asses in leftist spaces and make the place stink

@cyberquixote @benroyce I've a formerly close friend who sadly decided to leave our private discussion groups because she's so Facebook and "AI"-pilled, she took personal offence to my negative comments about these sources of info. They're designed to be addictive and to deliver constant dopamine hits. She can't understand why folks hate her "AI" slop.
We're still both in other campaigning groups, however, so I'm hoping she'll notice that I stay just as - if not more so - informed without them.

The "both sides are the same" message doesn't suppress the left vote. Because if you vote for a fucking transphobe and Zionist like, say, Talarico, then you can't call yourself left.
Hope this helps.
And no, I'm not a Russian bot. I'm in San Marcos, Texas. I'm absolutely voting for the anti-Israel/Flock/Data Centers left-wing candidates in the City Council and the woman trying tyo "unseat" (see what I did there?) Greg Abbott.

"its back to business as usual"
so if we show up in the primaries (which requires oppossing lying voices like yours who poo poo the vote) and we get 50 mamdanis, then things change
we got mamdani in the first place because the DNC tried their best to give us shit centrist cuomo, and the people *showed up* and said no
the difference is real. it's not "business as usual"
this "nothing matters, everything the same, waah waah" bullshit is a stupid cynical lie

They're your words, Ben;
Why are you angry, and;
Why are you lashing out?
You said Dems are shit.
So if you don't mean it?
Then don't say it.

Honk. Honk. Honk.

so your heart is in the right place but you have no brain
in our shit FPTP voting system if you don't vote you help abbott win
so do you say that because you're a fascist cosplaying left here?
or is this a sincere statement of how stupid you are, that you actively go out of your way to help abbott win?
there's more to life my friend than your precious precious feelings
you also need to fucking think and act strategically
and go gina!

@RaymondPierreL3 I didn't snap, apologies, that was just mild British sarcasm.

Thank you for your help it was appreciated.
