    @http_error_418 @dantheclamman

    If Giggle "enhanced" the photos on your phone, would they still be your photos?

    @huntingdon @http_error_418 @dantheclamman this is a very good point. Nevertheless ,I guess, most people just wouldn't mind whether their photos won't be "theirs" because an AI changes them... they'll just think "their" photos are cool...👀👀👀

      I have to pay increasing attention to what my phone does to pictures it takes. For example, my new Motorola phone includes a super zoom feature that actually uses generative AI to fill in details as it crops in! I turned it off, but others might not notice and upload such digitally created images to iNaturalist, where they'd actually impact scientific research

      @dantheclamman
      UGH!! This is why I won't replace my 2020 phone with anything but another 2020 phone.

      I really hope phone sales plummet because of this.

        @dantheclamman I vaguely remember photography debates around heavily edited pictures in photoshop and when they would stop being photographs and become artwork. Now that kind of editing has become part of the photographer's moment since that's how it comes out of the "camera" and there's no subsequent step and software involved. What you get is what it is, and it's all posing as photography.

          @dantheclamman my phone (Google pixel) just notified me of a feature that would allow me to "enhance" my photos 🤮

          Luckily for you, if your device isn't carrier locked, you can switch your operating system.

              @SRLevine Augh do you know where in Settings? I just looked through Camera and corrected a couple things, but I didn’t see that. Maybe my phone is too old . . . ?

              @superball So there is a chance this is just for the iPad, I'm running iOS 18.something on that. Under settings --> camera --> formats --> pick "most compatible" rather than "high efficiency"

                Ugh yes. Every time I just crop a photo I have to say no to "enhancement". S22 Ultra so it's not even a new model. Grrrrr

                      @dantheclamman I know this is too much to ask but... Are these "AI enhanced" images going to have EXIF data attached to indicate it has these artificial features have been included? Lots of services that support photo upload strip EXIF data but maybe scientific research could take a peak first so it knows which ones to leave out...

                                      I am triggered twice, because:
                                      - Ai (🤬)
                                      And

                                      It put the feathers in the wrong directions. 💀
