    If you're viewing a thread in Mastodon, try waiting 5 - 10 seconds to give it time to load in all the replies from all the other servers. When it's done loading it will show a little pop up message "Show more replies" or similar, click on the message to view all replies in the thread.

    In the old days it didn't do this and threads looked different on every server, but since Mastodon 4.5.0 it fetches all replies in a thread, so threads now look the same on every server.

        @FediTips what I find annoying is that I read a thread all the way through and it then says 'show more replies' and I can load them, but it doesn't highlight them so I have no idea which they are.

            @FediTips I really wish there was an option to suppress that popup and just load the replies. what is it even for? people who don't like reading comments? what are they doing in the comments? makes no sense.

                @kolya @FediTips
                Plus for me the popup spawns *just* far enough down that I can't actually click Show; I have to click out of the thread and back in to load the other replies.

                Also, it's only partially true that threads look the same on all servers. If a server blocks or limits another server, that will cause a difference.

                  Ain't nobody got time for that. I didn't live through the age of 9600 baud modems to wait 5 seconds for a thread. No sirree Bob. Now I just plug the CAT6 straight into my ear. It doesn't work and doesn't feel good, so I can't tell you why I do it. Wait, what was the question again?

                    @FediTips certainly better than "3 replies, add yours, haha there were really 400 replies that I'll show you now you've replied"

                      @riverpunk

                      It should always work on the web client if your server is running 4.5.0 or higher.

                      It should work on Tusky too (although there may be an intermittent bug: https://codeberg.org/tusky/Tusky/issues/5176), I wonder if it is fetching them but not notifying the user about it like the web client does?
