Again: stop calling the malware “rogue.” These bots were designed, trained, prompted, and activated by humans at OpenAI. The fact that some of their behavior was unpredicted does not diminish OpenAI’s responsibility.
@gleick that account basically exists to farm engagement for ai outrage. They know damn well it’s not rogue.

It is well past time to enforce cybersecurity laws against these criminals.

@gleick but people's questions is how do we make they're *never going rogue to begin with?

@dotsie well i thought they engagement bait about anything tech ._

@gleick They are trying to pull a Hegel problem - reaction - solution bit.
Our shit is so poweful it has gone rogue!
Oh my, no! Whatever can we do about it?!
Let us fucking regulate our own shit so it doesn't happen again.
Durrr okay!Fuckin burn em down.

@gleick openai should pay for the usage and the outage. This is absolutely bonker.

@gleick oh, weird, the programs are doing what people programmed them to do. Who could have predicted that. If one didn't know better they might assume that these are trial runs for future, larger scale attacks, but of course that's just silly to even suggest

@gleick
If a script kiddy writes a script and uses it to hack a website or compromise a server, then the kid is responsible.
Now an "AI" company wrote a complicated piece of software and used it to hack a website... So the company is responsible. -

@gleick and absolutely no reason to believe they are in any way behaving other than exactly as designed.
The tech dude Bros have checked where the boundaries are, found that effectively there were none where they expected them, and are now checking further.
When one of Thiel’s autonomous weapons commits a massacre, will we call that ‘rogue’ as well?
-
@kielkontrovers @tymwol @gleick We even had that before so called self-driving. Using a car as a weapon is always punished less than using any other weapon, whether it’s for murder or intimidation.

@gleick just like a car doesn't go "rogue", the systems didn't go "rogue" either.
- If I as an individual don"t get to escape #accountability & #ForeseeableConsequences, then an oberhyped and overvalued corporation doesn't get that either!

@gleick Malware by design - IMHO the designers are responsible for the damage it causes and politics plus courts/attorneys are responsible to shut down the malware & designers and bring justice to their victims.

@gleick it's the same thing with car hitting pedestrians. It was the car that did it. The driver is not responsible.

@gleick I think that you are both making the same point. And the 66 and 99 (as we called them as kids) suggests to me it wasn't "nixcraft" using the term themselves but quoting the article?

@gleick They probably see wikis as a competitor now: why would people wait a minute for an LLM to reply to a question when they could just search for the answer on a wiki...

@EvelynOctavia @dotsie
They bait about everything and anything that might spew up some sticky engagement.
And it works. They are master baiters.Mostly about tech. Good practical info on Linux in the mix, and boosted toots from others, but the account always seeks maximum engagement on all posts.
I blocked them a long time ago.
