I've started with GIMP years ago and I find Photoshop UI unintuitive.

@Sylvhem i love inkscape and gimp, but can we all agree that gimp needs to change its name and get a real designer to make new tool icons?
You’ve just proved the OPs point: if it needs to look nice do some designing for them or give them some money

@DavidM_yeg @Sylvhem Sure, but renaming and fixing the design are two things that the gimp world has been firmly against, whether or not they get money or design support. I regularly give money to open source projects.

I think this issue with software like GIMP (or well, GIMP specifically as I've tried it before) is that it just doesn't work intuitively.
GIMP imo is one of the most frustrating pieces of software to exist, where nothing ends up working the way you expect it to, or want it to. I don't mean this to be disrespectful to the people who work on it, it probably works wonderful for them and that's awesome, but not for a large group of people.
Why these AI clones are getting popular instead is because they basically look and work exactly like software people already know how to use. It's slop, but it's the slop they know.

https://krita.org/fr/donations/@Sylvhem best case scenario: the slop kills Adobe and then dies shortly thereafter, leaving the better options as the only options

https://krita.org/fr/donations/@Sylvhem GIMP and inkscape are good and I use them, but there is no good enough acrobat alternative. All pdf viewer/creator on Linux miss something, some feature (e.g. form filling, portable annotation)

And we had a perfectly working Photoshop clone for those who like the workflow and that's Photopea.When the ArtCraft folks slopped up an Excel clone I knew they were just doing it for the lolz. What a waste.

@FandaSin @tusharhero @Purple @Sylvhem And, ofc, the £250/year Photoshop lightens your wallet by might be thought of as switching to GIMP paying you £250/year to learn it...

@denisbloodnok @FandaSin @Purple @Sylvhem I don't think discarding our experience is helping. Many peoole just go with GIMP because it's much accessible (as in to get your hands on) than adobe.

@Sylvhem
> I honestly don’t understand that complaintI do, having experience with switching users to FLOSS. Their muscle memory is working against them. Like 'the blur dialog has default slider not how it should be'. It pains them the more, the more they have been using the other side professionally.
@ohir @Sylvhem @Purple well design consistency issues are to be expected, gimp has a perfectly serviceable interface - if users expect a photoshop interface they can continue paying adobe or sailing the high seas.
or of course use the vibe coded trash that struggles with moving layers
and i don't think it's an issue with oh developers don't care about users. as i've said it again, gimp has a perfectly usable interface but because nobody has the time or will to relearn how to use a new program we are suddenly hit with oh but it's too hard, oh it's not intuitive, which is a big misconception imo -

@Purple I honestly don’t understand that complaint, when the GIMP’s interface pretty much looks like the one from Photoshop CS5.
But I’m neither an expert on design, nor on interfaces so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ -
